Current Exhibits at the Pratt Building
"Signs, Signs, Everywhere a Sign"*
April 1 to September 1, 2019
The new exhibit showcases 35 signs from the Society’s collection, augmented by a few special signs graciously loaned solely for the exhibit. Many of the signs have been in the collection for decades, others are more recent acquisitions.
For many of us, they evoke memories of the Cohasset of our youth. For others, they represent places only known from stories or photographs. This exhibit caters to everyone, with brief histories of the places these signs represent. Signs in Cohasset have been regulated since 1955 when the town enacted its first zoning by-law.
Written on the back of the barn photograph: “The kind of thing that Cohasset no longer tolerates.” It makes one wonder, does this refer to the derelict barn or to the billboard?
